The Birth of the SPIRIT ANIMALS | Atlanta Artist

The post came through my Facebook news feed. One of my closest high school friends, Bianca, was grieving her Pomeranian, Alexa. She sent me a text message; I could feel the pain of her words through the screen. She couldn't talk, didn't want to talk. I respected her wishes, but offered my willingness to pray or anything I could do to help. Bianca sent me a few cell phone pictures and asked if I could sharpen, blow up, and re-color the images of her precious fur baby. I loaded them to Photoshop and attempted my best photograph restoring efforts. I stared at the pictures my friend sent me. What can I do? I sent her a text message apologizing that the cell phone pictures were just too dark and grainy to restore. The disappointment was evident in her response..."Oh, okay."
What can I do to comfort my friend? I asked this question over the next few days trusting that God would lead me to the answer. Then the idea came to me. I'll paint her. I ran to Michaels on my lunch break to pick up the supplies. With a trip I had planned with my boyfriend, I'd be seeing her soon, so I had to make the most of my creative time.

The preliminary sketches got me so excited to lay the background color. Bianca loves pink and Tiffany Blue, so I incorporated these into the background colors. Painting is a process, the artist works through many phases, ugly phases that make the artist take a step back and wonder: What the...?! The forms shift and change with each layer of paint, each phase. The ugly phase isn't something to be fixed though, it is definitely part of the process. I took some iPhone snaps of this process with my painting of Alexa. She is the only painting I have given a name. I had no idea that my painting of Alexa would be the birth of the Spirit Animals. Despite the sadness of my sweet friend's dog passing, I am so thankful to be able to give her something that will remind her of Alexa. Bianca, thank you for allowing me to do this visual tribute for you.
Below are the iPhone snaps of the process.

The beginning phase of Alexa.

The eyes and the nose came through first during the next phase along with some faint defining shadows of fur.

Alexa is ready to be hand delivered to my friend in Florida.

The Collection I created for my friend.

Alexa is solely for my friend, but you can find the Do What Makes You HAPPY print in my shop.

Thank you, my friend, for allowing me to be part of this grieving process with you. Sending love...

Personal | Mom of Boys

The summer comes quick in Georgia. The boys were out of school by the end of May. The first day of summer camp, hosted by our church, began and ended in a whirlwind. It's so hard to believe that they've been gone for a whole month. I've done my best to make progress during this month while they spend time with their dad. Missing them tremendously. My time has been occupied with moving, painting, cleaning, unpacking, organizing...everything that goes with moving (before and afters for another post).

Making home for my boys. There are so many things we do together that I've missed this summer. Our bedtime ritual, I love reading to them. I picked up two new novels we haven't read yet. The novels are stacked on the nightstand in their room. Waiting. My boys don't know what the house looks like; I wanted it to be a surprise for them. We have prayed, the three of us, for God to bless us with a home. I've been actively looking for an entire year now, teeter-tottering between buying and renting, renting and buying. To say that this has been an exhausting process is putting it lightly. It has been a lot of unexpected work, but so much joy has gone in to preparing this place that God has provided for us. I cannot wait for my little men to see it and for us to enjoy it together. Thank you, Lord, for your faithfulness to provide our needs.

At Home | The Isabella Family

The speakers were blaring in my car with the lyrics of Awake My Soul and I was singing along, ..."where you invest your love, you invest your life..." I was already en route to the city when I felt my phone vibrate. It was Kaylen telling me that the front door was open. I arrived in record time that Sunday morning without any help from my Garmin, which I'm rather proud about.

When I opened the front door, I was greeted by a very sleep deprived Mama Bear. "Don't hate me, but we aren't ready," Kaylen says to me as I set my camera bag down on the floor. "I can't hate you," I joked. "You're my sister; I'm obligated to love you." We both laugh. I hug her and ask where the coffee is.

The boys were sleeping in the master bedroom. Henley lay bright eyed in her rocking seat. After visiting for a few minutes, I heard little feet coming down the hallway. Preston. He woke up ready to play. I asked him to give me some sugar and he ran back down the hallway giggling. Preston has gotten so big. Kaylen and Andrew were standing him up when we captured the pregnancy announcement

Kaylen and I had been attempting to schedule the home session for a couple weeks since my visit with them in the hospital. Between the rain and the family's schedule this particular Sunday was the day even though the weather called for cloudy skies and rain again. We went with it.

I walked around the house with my camera as the family got ready. By the time the babies were dressed and ready for the whole family shot, they were done. All moms & dads can relate to this, I'm sure. Mommy & Daddy want to get their smooch on all the while one child is jumping on the bed dumping laundry on the floor and the other cries to be held. This is it though, the in-between times that I love to capture. It's real. Life is amazing and so fleeting. We have these beautiful moments with the people we love. Sometimes we are so busy with the things happening in life or the worries in our heads and we to tend miss the details.

Kaylen & Andrew are so good about making quality time for each other. It's a priority for them as it should be. Love is life! I mean love itself is life-giving, it replenishes what the world sucks out of you. They're getting it right. I'm so thankful to share a little bit of this home session.

Newborn | Henley Drew

Henley Drew was born on Sunday, May 7th. She is the first baby girl to be born in our family since her mommy, my sister, Kaylen. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to share in this moment with you and your family. Capturing the first family photos of Preston meeting Henley for the first time was priceless. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this since the beginning at Piedmont Park for your Engagement Sesh...I love you all!

Etsy Shop Update | On Hand Fine Art Photographs

Above & Below are simple iPhone snaps of some of the on-hand fine art photographs I have waiting to be purchased, shipped and appreciated in your space!

Currently, I am working on changing a few things in my business. Spring cleaning took the back burner for a little bit, but I have just now started sifting through old client sessions and photographs.
I have tons of on-hand fine art photographs! I will be posting and adding them to my shop this week. Check back often to see if there are any prints that you may like to brighten up your space or possibly to gift to someone you love. Mother's Day is this coming Sunday. It would be a splendid idea to gift a unique fine art photograph to Mom. Thanks in advance for your support.

Henry is ONE | Family Adventure Session

The leaves in November are so warm. My sweet nephew turned ONE last November. I wanted to blog a few of my favorites from this session. (Embarrassingly enough, these have been in my archives for months and I am just now getting to update my blog posts.) Kennesaw Mountain is the backdrop of this series of warm photographs of a beautiful family. This reminds me of how thankful I am to be able to capture loving moments. I love y'all!
